CountryTastic Set To Be Fantastic 26th March 2010
2010 looks set to be a fan’tastic’ year for anyone interested in countryside life, food, farming and the rural environment, as the Malvern Showground’s third action-packed educational show returns in April.
CountryTastic, which takes place on Thursday 8 April, at the scenic Malvern Showground in Worcestershire, has become a ‘must do’ on the school calendar and in the family diary, attracting more than 3000 visitors of all ages.
This year’s show, which once again supports the Government’s ‘Think Food and Farming’ campaign, is organized by the Three Counties Agricultural Society (TCAS).
Wool is a central theme for 2010, and new attractions include the fabulous ‘Murmuring Wheel’ display of sheep to garment demonstrations, complete with an exhibition of spinning wheels. There’s even a ‘Great Wheel’ (just like the one Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on) and some more up to date models fashioned from plastic drainpipes and recycled bicycle wheels!
The British Wool Marketing Board will also be bringing along a selection of fleeces for the children to touch, and there’s an educational live stage act, ‘The Sheep Show’ complete with ‘dancing sheep’!
The ‘Think Food and Farming’ initiative aims to promote food, farming and countryside to young people. The Society hopes that CountryTastic will give youngsters the chance to experience aspects of countryside and farming life that they are not normally exposed to, educating them about their environment in the process.
Said Sue Hodgson-Jones, TCAS Education Officer: “CountryTastic aims to bridge the gap between schools and agriculture, promote farming to the next generation of consumers and instill in young people a life-long appreciation for their food and the way in which it is produced.
We want to show people the link between food and farms, and help promote British agriculture to a new generation. For many children and their families events like CountryTastic, may be the only real chance they have to experience the countryside and its many activities first-hand.”
Other attractions lined up for the one-day event, include Cyril the Squirrel Terrier Racing Display – a hilarious canine version of flat racing, and ‘Museum on the Move’ – a bus with a memory-themed exhibition aboard, entitled ‘Remember Your Memories Matter’.
Favourites Gus Dermody Sheep Dog Display, Al Boden and the Organic Hillbillies, the Mid-Western Gundog Society, Shire horse dray rides, tractor and trailer rides, livestock, ferrets, birds of prey and fishing, are back by popular demand as is BBC Countryfile presenter, Adam Henson, who will be at the Show again this year with friends from his Cotswold Farm Park.
It promises to be an exciting and educational day out for all the family!
