Malvern Saddles Up For An Equine Spectacular 13th June 2011
Malvern’s Three Counties Show (17 – 19 June) boasts a staggering 2,815 horse entries this year – 100 up on 2010.
Show organizer, the Three Counties Agricultural Society (TCAS), is having to find more space to accommodate extra horse boxes, but says it is delighted that the Equine Village is proving such a draw.
Said Sharon Gilbert, TCAS Press & PR Manager: “In spite of continuing difficulties in the economy, and a worryingly slow start in terms of entries coming in, we are extremely pleased to announce that levels have now exceeded those of last year.
The Equine Centre here at Malvern is already the largest of its kind in the Midlands, catering for large scale competition events, and it is an important part of this week’s Show.
We have of course, made significant improvements to the facilities this year, including the installation of an Olympic size arena measuring 6,500 square metres, and I have no doubt that the consistent effort to enhance the area for equestrians, is helping to grow the Show’s equine contingent, and indeed, bookings throughout the year.”
Horse lovers can enjoy a packed three-day programme of competitions at the Three Counties Show this year – everything from in-hand and ridden classes, to private driving, side saddle, scurry, heavy horses and show jumping.
There are competitions for all kinds of breeds; Welsh, Irish Draught, British Morgan, Dartmoor, Connemara, Arab, Haflingers and Mountain and Moorland, together with classes for donkeys and retired racehorses.
The 2011 event has more than 250 classes and several HOYS qualifiers including the Cuddy Supreme In-Hand, and there is a new class for ‘Flat Ridden Sport Horse’ – a qualifier for ‘The Blue Chip Flat Ridden Sport Horse of the Year’.
“It seems the Show is attracting international interest now too”, said Ms Gilbert, “ and we have received entries from Norway and the Czech Republic. Other famous entries include horses belonging to HM The Queen and Cornish comedian, Jethro.”
The Three Counties Show takes place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 17, 18 and 19 June 2011 at the Malvern Showground. For more information, call the Hotline on 01684 584924 or visit the web site: www.threecounties.co.uk
