National Gardening Show Seeks Gardeners Who Open To The Public 18th November 2011
Do you open your garden to the public? Are you bursting to let other gardeners in on the secrets of your garden? If so, then you could be on your way to being a gardening show expert.
A panel of gardening enthusiasts is being invited to share its expertise in the Plants & People Arena Theatre at the Malvern Spring Gardening Show in May next year.
The idea is the brainchild of plantsman and award-winning garden designer, Paul Hervey-Brookes, who said: “We have all been to shows where celebrity gardeners and well-known experts talk about their gardens. When I was asked to be involved in the Spring Gardening Show in 2012 I thought it would be a great idea to ask gardeners who open their gardens for charity to have an opportunity to talk about their gardens, how they developed them, plants they particularly enjoy and the charities they support”
Paul, who has designed several show gardens for both the Malvern and Chelsea Flower Shows runs a busy garden design practice from the Painswick Rococo Garden and has been invited to compère the gardening sessions in the Malvern Theatre on Friday 11th May 2012.
“I love the idea that ordinary gardeners who work very hard and have this huge bank of knowledge could come along and share what they know. There’s so much work involved in opening a garden to the public and you are exposed to intense scrutiny from visitors. Gardeners are usually so modest about their achievements. I hope the Friday theatre session will be a chance for the audience at Malvern to find out how ‘real’ gardens are designed.”
Paul is inviting keen gardeners to tell him about their gardens and why they open them to the public. He’s looking for all kinds of gardens and is interested in hearing about the charitable causes gardeners support. If you would like to join Paul Hervey-Brookes at the Malvern Spring Gardening Show then please email isobelcoulter@threecounties.co.uk by 1st February 2012.
