Chainsaw Demonstration at the 2010 show

The Only Way Is Up - Show's Forestry Section Scales New Heights 13th June 2011

Visitors looking for the Forestry section at this week’s Three Counties Show (17 – 19 June), will have no problem finding it, thanks to the installation of two rather huge landmarks on the horizon!

For the first time ever, the Show is the venue for the Husqvarna European Pole Climbing Championships, and Show organizer, the Three Counties Agricultural Society, has erected two 25m high wooden poles especially for the occasion.

Competitions take place every day, as competitors dare to ‘run’ up the poles against the clock, in a spectacle of skill, speed and stamina.

The Forestry section returned to the Three Counties Show in 2010 after a long period of absence and proved to be one of the Show’s highlights. The new competition will almost certainly add a touch of excitement to the area.

Said Andy Eastaugh of Husqvarna UK Marketing: “We are delighted to be attending the Show with the Husqvarna European 25m Pole Climbing Championship in 2011.

The work of an arborist working up high in a tree with a chainsaw is not without risk, and the pole climb is a great opportunity for Husqvarna to showcase the high levels of training, expertise, fitness and stamina demanded by the industry, in a fun way.

Competitors don’t have to be arborists of course, but because the sport is relevant to the profession, many of them are – that’s not to say we don’t get a surprise or two.”

The Forestry section is run by Adrian Hope of Adrian Hope Tree Services in conjunction with the Three Counties Agricultural Society.

It aims to highlight both traditional and modern methods of working with wood, and to demonstrate how advances in technology and machinery complement rather than replace tried and tested techniques.

It is well supported by industry exhibitors, who once again, will be on hand with expert advice and impressive machinery, and visitors will also be able to watch practical demonstrations of activities such as fencing and clefting, courtesy of students from Herefordshire’s Holme Lacy College.
