Winter Fun At Summer Show 15th June 2011

Little ones heading to this week’s Three Counties Show (17 – 19 June) can enjoy a small taste of the Alps in the depths of summer – and it’s got nothing to do with climate change!

3 tonnes of snow will be arriving at Malvern’s Three Counties Showground each day, courtesy of SnowDome, the UK’s premier real snow centre in Staffordshire.

Younger show visitors can enjoy free ski and snowboard taster sessions, snow tubing and snow play, with skis, boots and snowboards all provided.

The Three Counties Agricultural Society’s June show is fast becoming England’s premier livestock event, but it is also renowned for its thrilling arena entertainment and family activities.

2011 is no exception, and SnowDome is just one of a whole host of attractions for the young and young at heart.

Honda’s official motorcycle display team, Bolddog Lings, will be at the Show this year and the UK’s top ranking freestyle motorcross riders will be carrying out heart-stopping tricks usually only seen on TV, 35ft up in the air.

And for the first time ever, the Show is the venue for the National Horseboarding Championships; the very latest in extreme sport.

Back by popular demand are members of The Parachute Regiment Freefall Team, ‘The Red Devils’ who will be taking to the skies over Malvern with canopy formations, swoop landings, daredevil jumps from altitudes of up to 10,000 feet, and freefalls at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.

Other Main Arena attractions include fast pace harness racing, heavy horse displays, dog agility, music from the Oatlands Park Pipe Band, show jumping and of course the magnificent Grand Parade of Livestock.

The Discovery Zone is packed with fun attractions and educational activities for families too.

The Potato Council is at the Show this year promoting the humble spud and offering samples of freshly cooked potatoes, and the University of Worcester is exploring the science behind the process of making butter, cream and milk.

Other Discovery Zone activities include wood turning workshops with Peter Bentley, the blind wood turner, have-a-go printing on Kathy Packwood’s Victorian printing press, welly decorating with the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute, and bugs and beasties fun with Richard Fishborne.

Hartpury College will be bringing along a host of reptiles, and visitors will have the chance to get up close to everything from tortoise and hermit crabs to baby Jacob Sheep. The Museum on the Move bus will be at the Show with ‘Numbers Count’ as its theme.

The Environment Agency is offering FREE angling coaching to under 16s, courtesy of the Youth Angling Project (YAP) on all three days, and there’s a chance to make a fly with expert fly tiers.
