9 Billion People: Feeding Britain in the Global Context

Between the world's increasing population and its growing food consumption as disposable income in developing countries increases, experts predict we will need 70-100% more food by 2050.

How we might be able to produce that food is the subject of this year’s 2010 Farming Conference.

Climate change and its impact on agriculture, soil and water resources will further complicate the task of feeding a world population estimated to hit 9 billion by 2050. At a local level there will be opportunities and challenges for farmers - often contentious scientific innovation will need to be considered in the coming decades.

Food Security is now firmly back on the agenda but against a backdrop of increasing concern for the environment and a sustainable agricultural industry.

To expand on these issues we have three speakers chaired by Dick Mason Agricultural Policy Director for Lloyds TSB and Bank of Scotland.
