Agricultural Society Wins Education Award

A pro-active agricultural society, committed to developing education business partnerships in and around the counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, is celebrating this week, after winning a prestigious award.

Receiving the awardThe Three Counties Agricultural Society in Malvern, Worcestershire, was presented with a Bromsgrove Schools PFI Strategic Education Business Partnership Award at the second annual Worcestershire County Council and HBG Construction celebration evening at South Bromsgrove High School this month.

The special accolade recognises the outstanding partnership between the construction company and a key work-related learning organisation.

It was presented to TCAS Chief Executive, Nick Vincent and TCAS Education Officer, Sue Hodgson-Jones, by HBG's Director of Learning and Development, Chris Jones, and Phil Eves, the company's Learning Resources Co-ordinator.

Like TCAS, HBG has been making great strides in the education sector recently, and both organisations came together in October this year, for National Construction Week, to host a four-day educational event at the Showground.

500 primary and secondary school pupils enjoyed a range of activities, including a construction trail, cob brick-making and plumbing, and the week was a great success.

Said Sue Hodgson-Jones: "The Society is committed to its role as an enabler in the delivery of educational programmes and curriculum activities in the region, and works hard to develop more and more partnerships with educational organisations each year, so to receive an award in recognition of our efforts is wonderful, and a great honour!

HBG Construction works extremely closely with schools and colleges in the area, running site visits, giving talks in classrooms and making sure it has a presence at careers events. It is particularly committed to addressing the skills shortages in the workplace.

Ours is a very fruitful partnership, and joint projects for 2008 include working with Worcestershire schools on a Design A Garden Challenge for the Malvern Spring Gardening Show (8 - 11 May), and a sustainability project to re-design our own Leadon Pavilion at the Showground.

We will also be coming together again for National Construction Week 2008."

TCAS boasts a permanent children's garden, a programme of teacher education days, facilities for event hosting and school competitions and promotions and its three main events provide a platform for a whole host of curriculum activities.
