Supermarket To Support Countryside Event

Supermarket giant, ASDA, renowned for its work with schools across the UK, is adding Worcestershire’s new educational family fun event to its long list for 2009.

The firm has stepped in to support CountryTastic, taking place at the beautiful Malvern Showground, during the school holidays on April 16.

Launched for the first time last year, the event – the brainchild of the Three Counties Agricultural Society (TCAS) - attracted 3,500 children and their families, who enjoyed an action-packed day of cake decorating, jam making, cider pressing, chickens and rabbits, collage work and dray rides.

Following on from a successful first year, a whole host of educational organisations, rural businesses and individuals have joined TCAS again for 2009, and visitors will enjoy all the favourites, together with new features such as tractor rides, a treasure trail, living eggs, reindeer and countryside tales from The Heritage Knights of the Teme Valley!

CountryTastic is closely aligned to the Government’s Think Food & Farming campaign, which aims to re-connect Britain’s youngsters with the sources of the food they eat, in a hands-on, fun way.

It is a nationwide endeavour to bridge the gap between schools and agriculture and instill in young people a life-long appreciation for their food and the way it is produced.

David Copner. General Store Manager of ASDA Hereford said: “We’re very glad to be able to offer our support to this event and be part of CountryTastic. It’s brilliant to be involved with a fun event for local kids that also has such a positive educational impact – helping the next generation to learn about local farming heritage and understand agricultural communities in the area.

CountryTastic’s commitment to the local community and the education of local children is admirable and something that ASDA strongly advocates.”

CountryTastic is open from 10am – 4 pm. Tickets are £4.50 (under 3’s FREE).
All activities are FREE.
