TV Vet Comes To Malvern

Visitors to the Three Counties Show (19 – 21 June) are in for a real treat this year, as popular veterinary surgeon and television presenter, Steve Leonard, heads to Malvern’s annual food and farming spectacular.

Steve LeonardSteve, who made his name when cameras followed his training for the series, Vet School, and then his professional progress in Vets In Practice and Vets in the Wild, is now a much-loved wildlife presenter, best known for his exciting adventures to far-flung places in extreme conditions, and his experience of animals facing adversity.

He has been invited to judge a wacky children’s ‘Paint A Pig’ competition on Sunday 21 June, and assist celebrated Italian chef, Felice Tocchini, with an exciting Father’s Day Cooking Challenge, but it is very much hoped that he will share some of his experiences with show visitors watching the parade of rare and minority breeds, sadly another vulnerable section of the animal kingdom facing adversity.

Steve is one of the country’s leading vets, and in spite of his busy television career, still runs a successful family veterinary practice with his brother, Tom.

He has made several major series for BBC TV including Steve Leonard’s Ultimate Killers, Steve Leonard’s Extreme Animals, Animal Camera, Journey of Life and Incredible Animal Journeys, and his series with Kate Humble – Hottest Place on Earth – and the second series of the brilliant Orangutan Diaries with Michaela Strachan, were broadcast earlier this year.

Said Sharon Gilbert, Press & PR Manager for Show organizer, the Three Counties Agricultural Society: “Steve is often described as ‘TV’s best-loved vet’, and is well- known as an enthusiastic, empathetic and inspirational communicator, whose wit and humour, coupled with a real concern for the threat to the environment and its inhabitants, endears him to people from all walks of life.

To have such a household name at Malvern, is wonderful, and I am sure our visitors will enjoy meeting him.”

He is a patron and speaker for the PDSA, Borneo Orangutan Survival International and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. He is regularly asked to make presentations for zoological societies and universities, as well as for commercial veterinary and wildlife-related companies.
