BBC Countryfile Star To Open CountryTastic

BBC 1 Countryfile star, Adam Henson, is lending his support to Worcestershire’s up and coming countryside event for children and their families.

The event, which is the brainchild of the Three Counties Agricultural Society, and is closely aligned with the Government’s Think Food & Farming initiative, was launched last year, and 3,500 children, their parents and their grandparents, enjoyed a whole host of attractions and some glorious weather.

Educational organizations, rural businesses and individual demonstrators have signed up for this year’s Show, which has attracted sponsorship from supermarket giant ASDA.

Adam, whose father Joe is a former Three Counties Agricultural Society President, is an expert in rare breed conservation and runs the renowned Cotswold Farm Park.

He has a wealth of experience in British farming, and as well as presenting on Countryfile for 8 years, has presented on BBC Radio 4’s ‘On The Farm’, and talks to groups on subjects such as bio-diversity, farming and rural life. He is a guest every Sunday on BBC Radio Gloucestershire, and has appeared on Sky TV, Central News and even Top Gear!

Said Sharon Gilbert, Press & PR Manager for the Malvern Showground: “CountryTastic is not about children standing on the sidelines simply observing others – it’s about allowing them to roll up their sleeves, make a mess and really get stuck in! They can have a go at everything from jam-making, cake decorating, collage creation, and painting eggs, and learn about the food they eat in a fun way.

Educational favourites will be enhanced by some new fun features for 2009, including tractor rides, a treasure trail, reindeer and countryside tales from The Heritage Knights of the Teme Valley!

Countryfile has just moved to prime time early Sunday evening viewing, and many of our visitors will almost certainly watch the programme. Adam is very popular with all ages, and we felt that children and their mums and dads would identify with him. We are obviously delighted that he is able to join us.”

Adam will be answering questions in the cookery theatre during the day and users wanting to send a question in advance, should e-mail Sue Hodgson-Jones, TCAS Education Officer.

CountryTastic is open from 10am – 4 pm. Tickets are £4.50 (under 3’s FREE).
All activities are FREE.
