Editor's Notes:
The Malvern Autumn Show is a fund raising event for the Three Counties Agricultural Society (Registered charity no: 511868).
The popular television gardener – who is already well-known to Malvern visitors, as one half of Malvern Spring Gardening Show’s formidable, and popular, celebrity host duo, with fellow television personality and co-star, James Alexander-Sinclair – will be speaking at the Autumn Show on Saturday 26, for the very first time.
The new Pavilion is all about tuning into a happy healthy living, by growing, harvesting, cooking and eating home-grown produce for healthy, living and general well-being, and Joe will be talking to visitors about his own allotment, and sharing some of his tips for success.
When he is not presenting Gardeners’ World or working on his allotment, Joe is busy as co-founder and design director of the award-winning ‘Modular Garden’ brand.
He has designed many gardens on television including the Bournville Garden for Gardeners’ World, Alan Titchmarsh’s ‘How to be a Gardener’ series, and one for Comic Relief. Other television work includes Small Town Gardens (BBC2), Garden Makers (Carlton and Meridian/UK TV), Garden Invaders (BBC1 and BBC2) and The Alan Titchmarsh Show (ITV).
He is the author of three books ‘The Plant Room’, ‘Joe’s Urban Garden Handbook’, and ‘Joe’s Allotment’ published in April 2009, writes for a variety of magazine and newspapers, regularly gives garden design talks and after dinner speeches and has hosted many live events.
The new Good Life Pavilion embraces every aspect of the ‘good life’ lifestyle, including sustainable gardening, foraging and recycling, home crafts, thrifty, wholesome cookery and small-scale livestock keeping.
This year’s Show is a delicious feast of country life, and a charming mix of flowers, fruit and giant vegetables, exquisite crafts, traditional food and drink and plenty of quality shopping.
There are thousands of blooms on sale from the country’s finest nurseries, and for enthusiasts, it’s the last chance of the season to view the inspirational Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show, covering more than 5000 square metres.
Other attractions include the Festival of Perry, Felice’s Kitchen, Chickens In the Garden, World of Animals, vintage motors, a farmers’ market, floral art displays with a ‘Back To Nature’ theme and delicious food and drink stands. The Show is also the venue for the National Finals of the Young Farmers Club competitions, and the British Association of Landscape Industries’ (BALI) WorldSkills UK Landscape Gardening Competition final.
The Malvern Autumn Show takes place at the Malvern Showground in Worcestershire on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2009. There’s plenty of free parking and discounts for children (under 5’s free), families and groups.
