Tractor Challenge

Vintage tractor enthusiasts, aged between 16 and 80, will be going full throttle this week, as they tackle a unique challenge of mammoth proportions!

Ferguson TE20 tractorMembers of the the Vintage Tractor & Engine Club (West Midlands), will be racing against the clock to re-build a Ferguson TE20 tractor on each of the first two days of the Three Counties Show (19 – 21 June).

The task in hand won’t be easy, and teams of six will be faced with a dismantled vehicle which they must re-build to engine start-up as quickly as possible.

The current Club record is a nippy 13 minutes and 15 seconds – achieved at the Tractor World Show in March.

Said Fred Beard, Organiser of the Show’s Vintage Machinery section: “We hope the tractor re-build will turn out to be a popular attraction in the vintage area, and now that a record has been set, the teams will have their sights set on beating it.

The task in hand is no mean feat, but although I’m told that Bicton College and Lackham College, who started the whole idea, have both managed to do the deed in just 10 minutes!

It’s a great laugh for everyone involved, and highly entertaining. I do hope that show visitors will come along and support the Club in its endeavours to better their best effort to date.”

The Three Counties Show, which starts this Friday, is expected to attract in the region of 95,000 visitors, and has a whole crop of new features for 2009, including a Farmers’ Market, Felice’s Kitchen, the Malvern Dairy Goat Show, a Medieval Village, and the Three Counties Cider, Beer and Music Festival.

Family entertainment includes the Kangaroo Kid, the thrilling Red Devils Parachute Display team, Young Farmers competitions, bees and honey, vintage machinery, country pursuits and even scuba diving!
