Talking Wizard Makes An Entrance
At Malvern Fireworks

A six foot high talking head, which started life as a Charles Dickens character, and turned into a British Prime Minister overnight, will take centre stage at one of Worcestershire’s biggest firework displays next week.

Talking WizardThe massive model – originally created by Stoke Lacy pyrotechnics experts Dragonfire in the early nineties – was born ‘Miss Havisham’ from the famous Dickens novel, Great Expectations, and delighted visitors to the Dickens Festival in Kent, by scolding the crowds gathered in the county’s Rochester Castle.

A quick transformation saw her re-modelled as ‘Margaret Thatcher’, for an event in Glasgow before she was sentenced to languish dejectedly in Dragonfire’s warehouse, waiting for a job.

Now, the menacing looking ‘iron lady’ is being turned into an evil looking, mad wizard as part of the Malvern Showground’s Halloween Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday 31 October, and HE will be talking to youngsters coming in to enjoy an evening of spooky music, fireworks and ghoulish fun!

Said wizard creator, Andy Firkin of Dragonfire: “When our very own Mrs Thatcher took a trip to Glasgow on a stormy November night, we really didn’t expect to see her again, but she did return, slightly battered and bruised, and has obviously been lying low, plotting and scheming revenge. After several years of sleeping in a cave deep within the Malvern Hills, the Mad Wizard of Malvern has emerged, and he wants blood!”

Fireworks spectacular organizer, the Three Counties Agricultural Society is confident that the enormous talking head will be a big draw to an event which now enjoys a reputation as one of the most exciting extravaganzas in the county.

The head is just one of a whole host of attractions which includes a bonfire complete with a witch, a Halloween firework display choreographed to rousing music, a fancy dress competition, a funfair, and bonfire refreshments.

The fancy dress competition is open to children aged 16 and under attending the display, with a chance to win a family ticket to Alton Towers. Entrants should arrive at the Showground by 6.15 pm and report to the information stand in Wye Hall.

The ‘Grim Reaper’ will judge the costumes, and as a thank you for taking part, all little monsters will be given a free ticket to the Society’s fun-packed CountryTastic event (April 8 2010).

Gates open at 5.30pm tickets are £6.50 and under 5’s go free.
