15th February 2019

Emily joined Three Counties from the 11 February for a week’s work experience. Find out what Emily got up to below.

“I arrived at Three Counties on a freezing cold February morning but was immediately welcomed with very warm hearts; their hospitality was above and beyond.  To start off my placement I was shown around the office being provided with lots of names! After that I was given an insight as to what everyone did, the roles, what it involved and how it was done.

My first task was to assist in the Venue Hire department and I was asked to do research into venue hire competitors ready to present at a meeting on Wednesday.

Tuesday morning entailed an exhausting tour around the whole 90 acre showground with John Wilesmith, Head of Operations, learning facts as I travelled around with him. Personally, I really enjoyed this, and I was glad I brought my wellies for this day. For the rest of the day I carried on my work on the venue hire competitor analysis.

Wednesday, I spent the day with the Three Counties Shows Team. I was welcomed by Jane Whittaker, Shows Operations Executive, who led me through her work. After that, I was introduced to Fiona Parker, Shows Executive, who showed me through her work and created some posters for a photography competition.

Following this, I attended the meeting regarding Venue Hire and shared my opinions and information that I had learnt from the analysis. This was the first professional meeting I had attended so I was nervous, however I made it through and I rather enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to stay for the remainder of the meeting and did so, in order to gain experience.

After lunch I was introduced into Jane Edwards, Executive to Head of Shows, and helped with her work which has convinced me to come and see RHS Malvern when its’s on! I followed on with a couple of jobs to see me through till 5 o clock.

Thursday, I saw myself completing a couple of jobs for Claire and Steph who form the Sponsorship and Marketing team. After being educated on the sponsorship details of what’s involved and who sponsor at Three Counties, I was given a task of picking out photos for the sponsor pages of the website. I was asked to change the sizing of the images ready for the website, this is something I had already learnt in media lessons at school.

Friday has then led to saying goodbye to a placement that I have loved and a placement that has broadened my knowledge on the working world.”
