Three Counties Agricultural Society – Review of 2020 and Members Update

From Ken Nottage, Chief Executive

Three Counties Agricultural Society publish an Annual Review each year in March, which is a look back at our own main shows and charitable activity, events staged by venue hirers of the Showground, and to provide our members with governance information relative to our Council and Trustees. Due to the Pandemic that dominated 2020 this is a much-altered communication in which I have focussed on updating you with the current position of the Society and of your Membership.

I would like to start by paying tribute to our Elected Council Members, Trustees, and Staff who have pulled together in the face of great adversity, everyone has played their part to protect our Society and we look to the future with confidence.

Coronavirus inevitably led to the demise of our usual Three Counties shows in 2020. I am delighted to report that the tenacity of our Council and Trustees and careful fiscal planning from prior good years has seen us through the most difficult time in our history. With the assistance of the Government Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, I have been able to keep our staff compliment together, this is personally gratifying for me as it has taken eight years to build the talented team now in place.

Membership is an important part of Three Counties Agricultural Society, and I am pleased to say that having initially moved forward memberships purchased in 2020  to 2021, they are now carried forward into 2022. This means that if you paid your subscription fee in 2020 your membership for next year – in 2022 will be provided at no additional cost, membership packages will be posted to you in the Spring of 2022 to cover next year’s three major shows – RHS Malvern Spring Festival, Royal Three Counties Show and Malvern Autumn Show. Most importantly I would like to thank you for remaining loyal through this extraordinary time, your support is much appreciated.

Showground Saturday, Food & Drink Feast, Malvern Plant & Garden Fair, The Equine Show, Fun Ride and DogTastic were new, smaller shows that we were able to stage in the summer of 2020 after the first lockdown ended, as well as our annual Malvern Caravan Show in October. Adapting our facilities for social distancing, one-way systems, sanitization stations, careful stewarding and administration allowed us to use our extensive outside space for these events, and proactively welcome a controlled number of visitors, which in turn allowed us to preserve relationships with stakeholders and support exhibitors and traders. I am especially pleased that the Regulatory Services reported there were no Covid-19 cases linked to our events. Everything worthwhile requires an effort and the team stepped up, it was wonderful to see visitors back through our gates and enjoying themselves.

In 2021, I had hoped for a better situation, however, it has been necessary to cancel some of the Society’s major shows – CountryTastic in April, RHS Malvern Spring Festival in May, Three Counties Championship Dog Show and The Royal Three Counties Show in June. These events are many months in the planning and cancellation was not an easy decision in a year where we eventually hope to see a return to our more usual numbers of visitors.

As I write we remain hopeful that the latter half of this year will see an improvement as the Government road map unfolds. Please keep a check on our website for some new, smaller Three Counties Agricultural Society shows, although these are outside of our  Membership package, they do provide excellent value for a nice day out. Also, there is a range of third party, venue hire events held at the showground. For full details of shows and events please visit which is regularly updated.

Malvern Autumn Show 2021 – Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September, I am pleased to confirm this very popular show has been extended to  three days. As Membership is not running this year, we will be offering existing Members a 20% discount for 2021. To claim your 20% off for up to six tickets please go to Members Tickets. We look forward to welcoming you to this event.

The Annual General Meeting 2021 notification and agenda is provided below. If you would like to access the accounts for 2020, these will be available on the Charities Commission website in due course, or by contacting the Society at

I sincerely wish you, your families and friends a safe passage through the current circumstances and look forward to welcoming you back to Malvern.
